Nick knew the exact angle that made Cody gasp, that made his hands clench so hard on Nick’s skin they left bruises. Sometimes when Nick wore shirts on a hot summer’s day he’d catch Cody looking at him with a shy, pleased, secret smile; one Nick returned with an open grin. They were both thinking the same thing, wondering when they’d next get a chance to leave marks, to steal time, to live unfettered in each others arms. Of all the scars Nick had gotten from love and war, the ones Cody gave him were the ones he cherished most.
