Title: Gams People Play (cutscene)
Rating: R (implied if sleepy naughtiness with dudeparts)
Summary: While Murray's losing his heart to a girl with size D's and a full knowledge of thermodynamics, Cody sneaks down to the stateroom to check on Nick.

"And that's why I think Feynman might be onto something with his second law of thermodynamic energy loss in transition states," Charlene finished. She dangled her tan legs over the railing, the fishing pole all but forgotten. "I mean, it's not like Planck took the friction coefficient into account. All the accounts I've read have his experiments taking place outside vacuum. So I'm not sure to what extent his equations are meant to be taken seriously." Charlene's big blue eyes appealed to Murray for confirmation of her fledgling theories. Who knew that Miss King Harbor would have turned out to be majoring in physics?

Murray stared at her, openmouthed.

"Murray," Cody tried. No response. Not good. "Murray?" Cody asked. "I think Charlene asked you a question." He reached out and pushed Murray's jaw closed. It dropped open again when he took his hand away.

Cody looked at Charlene, who shrugged. "Was it something I said?" she asked.

Cody smiled broadly. "I have no idea." He snapped his fingers in front of Murray's face.

Murray jumped. "Oh. Oh! Yes, Feynman's second law of thermodynamics. Well, see that gets tricky Charlene," Murray said, looking intently into her eyes, "because Feynman's very clear on the fact that his original experiments did in fact take place in a vacuum, and that the effect of friction versus static air was, by his calculations, well, irrelevant, really."

Charlene leaned closer to Murray, her moist tangerine-glossed lips slightly parted. She put a hand on his thigh. "Say that last part again," she asked.

"I think that's my cue," Cody mumbled, pushing himself to his feet.

Neither of his companions were aware of his departure.

Downstairs in the salon, Cody found Nick, wandering around in a tshirt and sweats, looking even more tired and confused than the last time Cody'd put him to bed. "What are you doing up here?" Cody asked.

Nick looked dazedly about the room. "Couldn't sleep?" he tried.

"Nick, right now I'm pretty sure you could sleep standing upright in the middle of a whole roomful of naked baton twirlers." Nick wavered on his feet, eyes closed, head falling forward.

"I think you may be right. Man, I don't know what's wrong with me." Nick scrubbed a hand over his eyes. "I'm exhausted, but when I lay down, nothing happens."

Cody shrugged. "So go lay down some more. See if you can talk yourself into it."

Nick grimaced. "Nah, I might as well shower and get dressed, see if I can salvage what's left of the day. Murray and Charlene still fishing?"

"Kinda."

"Great. Think they'll catch anything for dinner?"

"I don't think they're thinking about dinner right now, buddy."

Nick looked confused. "How could they need help with this concept? Worm goes on the line, line goes in the water, fish goes on the line, fish goes on the grill. S'easy. You know, I should go help."

Cody caught Nick's arm as he headed for the stairs. "They don't need your help, Nick."

"They don't?"

Cody shook his head. "They're doing just fine. Now why don't you head back downstairs and get some sleep?"

"Cody--"

"No. You need sleep." Cody placed both hands on his friend's chest. "Come on. I'll take you downstairs." He spun Nick around, pushing him towards the stairwell. Again.

Just like last time, Nick let his friend put him to bed. But unlike last time, this time Cody stayed, laying fully dressed along the length of his partner's body.

"Mmm...hey."

Cody chuckled. "Nick...."

"Mm-hm?"

"You need sleep. Not this."

Nick stopped licking at Cody's neck for a second. "I need you, Cody," he said softly. "Two whole weeks. I wanted you. Every night. You were all I could think about."

"I know, buddy. I was in the same boat," Cody said. "But you're back now, and there's time enough for this after you get some rest." He drew a sharp breath. One of Nick's hands was up under his shirt, fingers teasing his nipple. That made it more difficult to do the right thing, certainly.

"Besides," Nick continued, "I'm getting a second wind here." He started kissing his way along Cody's jaw.

"Nick?"

"Mmm."

Cody gently held his friend at arm's length. "Sleep," he said gently.

Nick pulled back with a jolt and his eyes asked a question.

"Of course I do, but we already tried that," Cody answered.

Nick looked puzzled. "We did?"

"Yup," Cody answered with an amused expression. "You fell asleep, buddy, about halfway through. So I guess really, we didn't."

Nick shook his head. "Great. Just great."

Cody laughed at his partner's baleful expression. "Relax, we've got time. Besides, I should have known you'd be too tired."

"Me? Too tired? For you? Never." Nick untucked Cody's shirt from his jeans with a look of renewed determination.

Cody looked on with an indulgent grin, but caught his friend's hand and brought it up to safer ground with a kiss on the knuckles. "Nick, you've been too tired since you came down off your mountain. I should have known better. You need some sleep."

"Cody, I'm good." Nick pushed himself up to a sitting position. "For you, I'm always good."

"I'll second that," Cody replied, pushing Nick back down with a kiss. He curled up next to Nick in the small bunk, rubbing a gentle hand over his friend's stomach. "But you're exhausted. Do you remember making a sandwich earlier?"

"Sort of. We came down here for a while, then you left, I couldn't sleep...I remember being hungry, and--"

"Nick, when I got there you were putting honey on bologna."

"Sweet tooth?" Nick tried.

"You don't like bologna, Nick," Cody said gently. "And you're allergic to honey."

Nick looked skeptical, but finally lost the battle to keep his eyes open. Cody took the opportunity to pull him close, nuzzling his best friend's neck. He breathed deeply. Under the sweat and soap, Cody could smell the scent which was uniquely Nick and he drank it in happily. "Trust me, Nick, I can tell how tired you are."

"Says you..." Nick frowned, eyes still closed.

Cody propped himself up on one elbow so he could watch Nick's face. "Nick? Earlier? In the kitchen? You giggled."

Nick's eyes shot open. "I did not."

Cody ran a gentle hand down his partner's chest. "Did too. Now get some sleep. When you wake up," Cody paused to kiss Nick's jaw, "I'll make you giggle some more."

"Y'know," Nick said, rolling over to curl up along Cody's stomach, "there's a clever remark I should make right here."

"Yup," said Cody, kissing him again.

"And I'll get to it..." Nick reached for his friend's hand and clutched it in his own, pulling it tight against his chest. He rolled into a ball, Cody close against his back, and a few seconds later, began snoring.

"Yup," Cody said again, kissing Nick's cheekbone. "I'm sure you will," he whispered.

---

A few hours later, Nick tried to detangle himself from Cody without waking him. Which went about as well as every other time he tried it.

"Hey, you're awake," Nick said.

"Hey." Cody stretched, catlike in the bunk.

Nick reached for him. "Mmm. Do that again while I watch, will ya?"

Cody smiled widely and kissed his partner. "Feeling better?"

"Like a million bucks."

"Like a million beans?" Cody asked with a smirk.

"Don't push it. C'mere." Nick kissed Cody back, pulling him close. "I missed you so fucking much," Nick whispered.

"You did, huh?" Cody leaned back and held Nick at arms-length. "Well at least you had your face-fur to keep you company. I swear that thing's grown a good inch since we took our nap."

Nick raised an eyebrow. "Admit it," he said. "You like it."

Cody chuckled. "Nick, I don't know how to break this to you but--"

Nick rolled on top and slid a gravelly cheek along Cody's clean-shaven one, eliciting a yelp and a struggle.

There was a brief but vigorous tussle.

"You like it, come on, admit it." Nick was wearing a goofy grin. He'd wound up mostly losing the struggle, and lay pinned.

Cody panted with exertion. He tilted his head and licked gently along Nick's collarbone. "There's definitely something about you I like."

They kissed deeply, then Cody raised an eyebrow and slid his hand into Nick's sweats. Nick drew a deep breath and moved beneath Cody to give him better access. Cody moved his hand again, and Nick arched his back, eyes closed. At which point he froze with a grimace.

"Nick?" Cody asked.

"S'nothing," Nick said in a strangled voice. "I'm fine. In fact, I'd be even better if you kept--"

Cody sat up, straddling Nick's hips, forcing him back down on the bed. "How many hours did you wind up flying anyway?"

Nick looked cagey. "A few."

Cody said nothing.

"Okay, a few more than a few. But it's nothing. I'm good. Could we go back to where you were--"

"Roll over," Cody growled.

Nick smiled slowly. "Can do." He lay down on his stomach, Cody straddling his thighs. "Mmm," he said. "I really like this part. Did I mention I missed you, Cody? So fucking much." He raised his hips up against his partner's groin, pushing against Cody's jeans with an appreciative murmur.

Cody gently pushed Nick's hips back down and, leaning forwards, put both hands on the back of his partner's neck.

"Cody?"

"Sssh."

"Mm, Cody? Could you move your hands back down, just a little lower..."

Cody began to move his fingers, his thumbs roving until he located--there, just there--the knot Nick got from too much flight time, not enough down time.

After a few seconds, Nick moaned into the pillow. "Forget I said anything," he managed finally, pushing his head back against Cody's hands. "About earlier? Forget that. If you could just keep doing what you're doing for oh, the next six hours at least--"

Cody kissed his partner's head, hands never ceasing in their motions. "Sssh."

"Mmm. Ssshing now." Nick fell back into the pillow.

Cody continued to rub Nick's neck, an expression of intense concentration on his face.

He considered that knot his own personal nemesis. Experience had taught him just how much pressure he needed, and how much he could get away with. He moved slowly, pursuing the knot, listening to Nick moan softly beneath him, backing away at the first sign of trouble. Pursuit and retreat.

Finally Cody's hands gave out just as the knot relented, and he cracked his knuckles ostentatiously.

"If it weren't for your hot bod and your sexy mustache, I think I'd love you for that alone," Nick said, his head turned to one side. His eyes were closed again, but Cody could tell he was no longer tired. Just relaxed and comfortable.

Just the way Cody liked him.

He leaned forward and moved his lips over where his hands had been. Nick wriggled underneath him and Cody relented, letting his partner flip back over, smiling happily into Nick's grin, letting himself be pulled down.

They kissed, long and searching. Cody broke it off, sitting up to take a look at his partner's expression.

"I missed you," Nick began. "So--

Cody leaned down and finished the sentence for him.
