Title: Early Rising
Rating: R
Summary: Too early to get out of bed on the Hightide.
Nick stretched and wriggled, only enough to catch sight of the clock next to their bed. 6:42. Way too early to get up.
He sighed, relaxing against the mattress. Very little light seeped in around the edge of the porthole situated directly above the bed, and less came in through the windows, just the way it was supposed to be. But a lifetime of early rising died hard in him and he lay blinking and gently stretching in the dim morning. He could slip out of bed, maybe, and get up,
Cody suffered no such qualms and lay curled in the lee of Nick's body. As Nick watched, he frowned a little and kneaded the comforter, so Nick redirected his stretching until he was wrapped round Cody like a shell.
All clear, he drew on Cody's forearm, then rubbed the place his fingers spoke. "Safe," he murmured in Cody's ear.
Cody's frown deepened and, unsettled, he turned awkwardly in Nick's arms, jostling them both until he was satisfied. Nick waited. He always waited.
Besides, he much preferred saying some things to Cody's face. "Love you," he whispered along Cody's jaw. "Forever."
Cody drew a deep breath and opened muzzy eyes and focused them on Nick. With a soft smile, he nuzzled Nick's jaw.
Nick nuzzled back, returning the greeting.
For a few minutes, they lay together in the warm, close darkness of their home, and held each other tight. Nick tried to still his restlessness; stopped his ankles from rolling, his fingers from tapping and tried to get back to sleep, but the day beckoned.
Cody's eyes were fully focused now, reading him.
Nick shut his eyes quickly. Cody needed his rest. He could be still for Cody. As long as it took.
Cody snorted softly and Nick cracked an eye back open.
Cody's snort became a chuckle, then one hand found Nick's hard-on through his sweatpants, palming the length of it, thumb questing for the tip through the soft, worn cotton.
Nick bit back a groan. He could be still for Cody. As long as Cody didn't cheat.
Cody cheated.
With a soft twang, the knotted drawstring of the sweats gave way and Cody slipped his hand beneath the waistband, grasping the flesh beneath.
Nick smothered another groan in the pillow, but Cody was already moving over him, fingers light and teasing, palm hot and moist.
Cody's hand followed a familiar pattern and Nick gave in, rocking his hips, breathing into Cody's hair, swept away by how magic it still was to have Cody next to him, touching him.
Nick opened his eyes and tried to speak, but just the sight of Cody and his knowing smirk, the light in his eyes, was enough to send him soaring over the edge. He gripped Cody hard and rocked into his palm, riding out the waves of it until he was utterly spent.
Nick collapsed back against the pillow, boneless and comfortably exhausted.
Cody sat up and leaned over Nick, fishing on the floor next to the bed. Leaning back, he mopped delicately at the come on his belly and chest, then gave Nick a cursory swab. The sock went flying, landing in a far corner.
Then Cody settled back on the mattress, turning his back again, curling up into Nick's arms. Pulling Nick round him like a shell.
Nick nuzzled the back of Cody's neck happily, breathing deep. He tightened his arm around Cody's midsection and went contentedly back to sleep, waiting for the morning.
